Cataract Treatment Available for Residents of Dunedin, FL
If you’ve been diagnosed with a cataract or suspect you have one, St. Michael’s Eye & Laser Institute can help. Our facility in Largo, Florida, offers diagnosis and surgical treatment of cataracts for Dunedin residents of any age.
What Are Cataracts?
Cataracts are a common age-related condition marked by the clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye. About half of all Americans will have cataracts to one degree or another by age 75. Cataracts distort vision and, thus, can impair your ability to perform everyday activities like reading, driving, or watching TV. At St. Michael’s, our team of skilled ophthalmologists has performed successful cataract treatment for countless Tampa Bay-area residents since our founding in 1961.
What Is Cataract Surgery?
It’s a fast, outpatient procedure in which a surgeon removes the clouded eye lens and replaces it with a clear artificial lens. Cataract surgery is relatively painless and takes an hour or less to perform. After the procedure, you will need to protect your eye according to your doctor’s instructions for up to a week, and use prescription eye drops to prevent infection.
What Can I Expect After Cataract Treatment?
You may notice that your vision is clearer immediately. You’ll also likely experience some discomfort for a few days after the procedure. It takes about a month for your eye to heal completely after a cataract operation.
